In 2002, Sassy and Brian Henry took a bet on moving their young family from Atlanta to Pawleys Island to become innkeepers and eventual proprietors of Sea View Inn. Although familiar with hosting parties in Atlanta, this was entertaining on a whole new level. They were essentially hosting a beach house party every day of the season for 40 guests! That bet turned out to be a winning gamble that they have parlayed into two other successful business ventures: Palmetto Cheese and Get Carried Away.
Making Palmetto Cheese
The Henrys began serving low country boils casually on the inn’s ocean front porch. This meal featured appetizers, including a crowd favorite pimento cheese recipe Sassy formulated in the 1990’s to share at Braves game tailgates. In 2007, the Henrys began producing what they called “Palmetto Cheese” for a few local outlets. While the first retail units were produced at Sea View Inn, the first production facility for Palmetto Cheese was at the current location of Get Carried Away in Pawleys Island.
After the commercial production of Palmetto Cheese was moved to a new location, the facility transitioned to producing casseroles, dips, spreads, sweet and savory pies, seafood, and many other local favorites that are still best sellers today: Lowcountry boils, chicken salad, chicken perlo, chicken and wild rice, tomato pies, and pound cakes. In addition to making it easier for locals and vacationers to enjoy prepared meals, they wanted to share some of the lowcountry dishes that had become a mainstay at Sea View Inn – crab divine, squash casserole, collard greens, and seafood pie.
Getting Carried Away
Get Carried Away has become a mainstay for locals and vacationers looking for prepared foods that can be enjoyed on the beach, on the river, on the dock, or right at home. Over the last 12 years, Get Carried away has expanded its footprint several times to accommodate new business and a growing customer base. Now offering a selection of wines, craft beers and a collection of unique items that you can only find at Get Carried Away Southern Market. Whether you’re headed to a party or the host with the most, we have everything you need to be the party hero!
After evaluating multiple locations to open a 2nd location for Get Carried Away, the Henrys settled on Mt Pleasant, SC. A space at Moultrie Plaza near Shem Creek became available in 2022 and they plan to open this store by the end of 2023.
